Artificial Intelligence holds the potential to be a game changer in patient safety. So many of the historical processes to capture, track and analyze data can be automated to perform these tasks so they are no longer human dependent to complete. AI science can mimic or do even a better job of human reasoning and analysis and can be harnessed in a way to bring new meaning to healthcare delivery. The podcast explores one example of implementing AI to improve patient safety by developing a method to provide prospective risk analysis using data from the EHR. In particular, using this data is helping Mayo Clinic to improve the prevention of pressure injuries in hospitalized patients.
